Where are you calling “the office” right now?

At the moment, I’m working from my favorite cafe in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, just over the border from my home base in Maine. I’m literally living on top of a mountain with no neighbors right now, so I like to balance that seclusion with lots of cafe-hopping.


Any new year’s resolutions you’d like to share?

More learning, more travel, more movement – top of my list is learning to surf. And (attempting) to meditate more.


Favorite place you travelled to last year?

Toss up between Oregon and Bermuda. The hiking in Oregon was incredible – we hiked the coast and around Mt. Hood – and the colors of Bermuda really blew me away. All those pastel houses!


Top destination on your list for 2018?

Somewhere in Europe… or maybe a cross-country road trip.


Favorite way to spend a weekend in New England?

Outdoors! The secret to getting through long, cold winters in Maine (it was -23˚f this morning) is staying active. On the weekends, I’ll usually make breakfast with my husband before we head out for a day of snowshoeing or snowboarding. In the summer, I hike or head to the ocean.


Any tips for staying active when it’s cold outside?

Bundle up, listen to your body, and stay hydrated! Also, try all the winter sports you think you don’t like (I hated cross country skiing as a kid, but love it now). Of course, if it’s too cold to handle an outdoor activity, a heated yoga class is pure heaven in the middle of winter.


What’s the best part of your job?

Learning, storytelling, seeing how positively our products have affected people’s lives.


Coffee, Elixir, or Blend?

It’s so hard to choose! Totally depends on time of day: in the AM, I like to stir a spoonful of the 10 Mushroom Blend into my coffee with tocotrienols and collagen; in the afternoon, I’ll have a big glass of water with a spoonful of the Hydration Blend for a hydration boost before the gym; and at night, I love mixing the Reishi Spores with a mug of warm almond milk and a spoonful of turmeric-ginger-infused honey to wind down before bed.


Any secret recipes?

I always crave a coffee around 3 p.m., but don’t like to consume too much caffeine after lunch because I won’t sleep. Instead, I whip up the recipe below – all the satisfaction of coffee with the soothing properties of ‘shrooms, plus it doubles as a filling snack.


Decaf Afternoon Mocha

Ingredients:

 

  • 8 oz. brewed hot Decaf Ground Mushroom Coffee
  • 1 small square Mushroom Chocolate (or other super dark chocolate made with coconut palm sugar)
  • 1 Tbsp coconut butter
  • 2 Tbsp hemp seeds
  • Pinch of cinnamon

 


Combine the hot coffee, chocolate, coconut butter, and hemp seeds in a high speed blender and blend on high until smooth and frothy. Pour into a mug and sprinkle with cinnamon. Enjoy!

Where are you calling “the office” right now?

Hard one, but I’d say our office space in Santa Monica, CA. However, I can work pretty much anywhere and love to take my calls while walking, I feel like I can concentrate better and get exercise in the sun all at once!  


#1 goal you want to crush in 2018…

Launch our new, cool products in stores nationwide. Can’t wait to see the products we’re developing on store shelves!


Favorite place you travelled to last year?

Pipa Beach in Northeastern Brazil. Great combination of beautiful beaches, happy people, restaurants, and dancing. I spent Christmas and New Year’s there with my ex-colleagues from Google and we had a lot of fun.


Top destination on your list for 2018?

Australia. I’ve never been, as it’s not exactly next door, but I’d love to check it out. We launched in Australia in 2017 with great success, so I could include some business and consumer lectures on the journey as well.


Favorite way to spend a weekend in LA?

Hopping on my road bike and hitting the Topanga and Santa Monica Mountains, followed by a brunch with good friends in the sun. Such a great way to unwind, and I get my best ideas while punishing myself on the 6 mile uphill ride!


You’re a big sports fan - what’s your favorite way to stay active?

Anything outside, but street hockey and beach volleyball are hard ones to beat.


What’s the best part of your job?

Educating people. I love to be around people from various backgrounds, and in my job I get to interact with our consumers, lovely store staff members, other health food brands, and corporate buyers/executives.


Coffee, Elixir, or Blend?

Elixir. If I’d have to choose one product to take to a deserted island, it would be the Chaga Elixir. Our ‘Shroom Room-only Mushroom Chocolate would be the runner-up, if only it wouldn’t melt! I could eat at least two of those bars per day!


Any secret recipes?


Mikael’s Mushroom Overdose

Ingredients:

 

  • Full 10 Mushroom Blend packet
  • 2 cups blueberries
  • 1 avocado, pitted
  • 1 Tbsp green powder (chlorella, spirulina, wheatgrass, etc.)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch vanilla powder/extract
  • Water
  • Ice

 


Mix all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth. Don’t mind the colour :)


Instant Sports Drink

Ingredients:

 

  • 2 tsp Hydration Blend
  • 1 tsp honey
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Few drops of trace minerals liquid

 


Mix all the ingredients together in your shaker bottle with water. Sip and enjoy during and after exercise.
